Full Project Description

Under USDA/CREP, this conservation easement protects 8.6 acres of vegetated riparian buffer along the North Branch of the Potomac River and one of its unnamed tributaries, in Allegany County MD. The 8.6 acres are part of a larger 50-acre farm field located on the southerly side of the North Branch.
The Easement Area along the North Branch consists of a strip of warm season grasses (bird habitat) along the field boundary, restored through the CREP program, which changes to trees along the stream bank. This section of the easement covers 2.369 acres along approximately 0.3 miles of the river.
The Easement Area along the unnamed tributary also consists of a strip of warm season grasses along the field boundary, which changes to trees along the stream bank. This section of the easement covers 6.169 acres along approximately 0.4 miles of the river.
Management: landowner may cut grasses only after nesting seasons to protect wildlife.
Note: location map shows larger, 50+ acre property. The 8.6-acre easement is not delineated.
